Ms. Humm Keen has a national practice that spans business strategy, market research, small business development, program evaluation, social marketing, and race and gender equity studies. Clients include state and local governments, large and small businesses, cultural facilities, women’s service providers, and health and educational institutions.
She has co-directed 30 disparity studies examining race and gender equity for state agencies and local governments and developed award-winning, web-based small business assistance delivery for the City of San José, and for the Arizona Department of Transportation. She developed social marketing programs for the Denver Department of Environmental Health, Santa Clara Valley Water District and Phoenix Water Services. Results of the Phoenix study were published in American Water Works Association’s, Journal AWWA. She is also a frequent speaker at national conferences.
She has also analyzed policies and gaps in supportive services for workforce investment boards in California and assessed potential new master’s degree programs and adult education programming.
Ms. Humm Keen helped create and promote the Take Control Birth Control program for the Prevention First Colorado Coalition, a coalition administered by NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation.
Focus group moderation, ethnography, surveys and other qualitative and quantitative research are areas of expertise. Ms. Humm Keen has led focus groups with target audiences from museum-goers to truck renters and retired teachers. She conducted in-home visits assessing water use and conservation among high water users. Ms. Humm Keen interviewed zoo and aquarium directors and surveyed members to assist the Association of Zoos and Aquariums with its strategic plan, membership structure and future marketing.
Prior to launching Keen Independent Research, Ms. Humm Keen was a Senior Consultant with BBC Research & Consulting in Denver, Colorado. Ms. Humm Keen also founded and directed a Colorado-based consulting firm for 25 years, and served as Director of Marketing for an integrative health entity.
Ms. Humm Keen earned a Master’s degree from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from St. John’s University. She has taught at the University for Youth at the University of Denver. Ms. Humm Keen has served as board president of non-profit and member organizations.
