Rachel Simmons joined Keen Independent as a Research Assistant. Her background includes research on civil rights equity as a Civil Rights Research Analyst at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. While in this position, Rachel attended Senate hearings and formulated policy briefs and reports as part of her varied responsibilities.
Ms. Simmons brings extensive experience to the Keen Independent team analyzing focus groups and in-depth interviews, as well as working with complex data sets. Her recent work at Keen Independent includes coding and business location research for Keen Independent’s State of Colorado Disparity Study. Rachel contributed to a class and compensation study as part of a Keen Independent performing arts assignment in Colorado.
As the Associate Director of Marketing for Viridian Capital Advisors, Rachel spearheaded the communications and marketing plan for the firm. Ms. Simmons also has experience working in media at New York Times and Newsweek. While working with the Middle East Editor of Newsweek, Rachel reported on transnational justice, crimes against humanity and refugee issues.
Rachel also worked for a number of non-profits. She continues to serve as an Advisory Board Member for Black Women’s Blueprint in Brooklyn, New York. Ms. Simmons earned an English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching certificate and has taught high school English at the Girls Leadership Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. She has spent much time abroad and is fluent in French.
Ms. Simmons holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with concentrations in Africana Studies and Political Science from Vassar College.
